These were the most incredible fries I’ve ever eaten and I’ve eaten a lot of fries, my jeans will attest to that fact. The other night we were having Healthy Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes and I was trying to think of a side dish. I love just cutting up a sweet potato or a regular potato and put it in them in the oven and make fries that way, but the hubs, not a fan. Just this past weekend, we went to a new restaurant and we were talking about the food afterwards, that we we’re not impressed with the fries they served our sandwich. He was going on and on about the seasoned fries we got at another restaurant, hence inspiration for this recipe. I poked around the internet some and I came across one recipe that called for plain bread crumbs, but then you added a lot of spices, most of which would come in seasoned bread crumb…. So instead of reinventing the wheel, I used seasoned bread crumbs, added a little chili powder , then whisked up some egg white, made sure the potatoes were dry
and dipped them in the egg whites, then the bread crumbs put them on a sprayed sheet pan and sprayed the tops of the with non stick cooking spray to help them crisp up and they were awesome! To make them even more awesome, I took mayo, ketchup and a little red pepper and mix it up to make a fry sauce – amazing!!!!!!!
Seasoned Fries with Fry Sauce
2 large potatoes (I used red skinned cause it’s what I had & I didn’t peel them)
1 cup seasoned whole wheat bread crumbs
1 tsp. chili powder
3 egg whites, whisked until frothy
1/3 cup mayonnaise
2 TBSP ketchup
3/4 tsp. red pepper(cayenne)
Wash potatoes well and slice them into planks or wedges, whatever you shape you like, we like planks. Put them in a kitchen and dry them well. In a bowl add egg whites and whisk until frothy and in another bowl and add bread crumbs and chili powder and mix together. Dip planks into egg whites, then into bread crumb mixture and put on a sprayed baking sheet. Then spray the tops of the planks with non-stick spray and bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 10 minutes, flip them and bake for another 10 minutes or until crispy brown and done through. In another bowl mix mayo, ketchup and red pepper and serve along side the fries!
