Happy Father’s Day!
I am so blessed, I have an awesome dad!
My dad worked realllllly hard when I was a kid to make sure we had everything. Make no mistake, my parents made my sister and I work really hard too, but they gave us a great home, a wonderful family and while my dad wasn’t always around because of work, that taught both of us a great work ethic and taught us the ability to take care of yourself.
In 1995 when I had my daughter, my parents only grandchild, he retired six months later, and while I would love to say he was a grandfather to her, he was, but he was also her best friend, partner in crime and best playmate a little girl could have.
He played with her as he never did with us.
He read to her, he changed her, he feed her bottles, it was a love story in the making. To her future husband, good luck because Pop Pop set the bar high. She’s was and is everything to him!
I’m so bless she’s had such a wonderful example in her life.
My dad has never been a huge sweet eater, and I don’t know why I did it one year, but for Father’s Day, I made a Honey Bun Cake, and he looooooved it!
So now it’s a tradition!
It’s sort of funny, my sister usually takes half the cake when she leaves because she loves it too!
This is a great cake for a morning meal on a holiday, a great coffee cake or just an anytime cake! I hope you enjoy it and I hope everyone has a great Father’s Day with whoever you spend it with!
Take yellow cake mix, pudding mix, sour cream, oil and mix together, then add egg, pour in 1/2 batter in a 13 x 9 pan. Mix up brown sugar and cinnamon, then top your cake with the mixture, put the rest of your cake mix on top of the cinnamon sugar mixture and swirl together
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until done
While it’s baking, make a glaze with confectioner sugar, milk and vanilla, when the cakes done, let it cool for a few minutes the top with you glaze
Before we get to the recipe, let me give you a little tip, with your brown sugar, I store my brown sugar in a quart mason jar, if you put a piece of bread in whatever you store your brown sugar in it will keep it from getting hard.
Apparently when I stored this brown sugar, I had mini bagels, still worked!
Honey Bun Cake
1 box of yellow cake mix
1 box of instant vanilla pudding
3/4 cup of vegetable oil
1 cup of packed brown sugar
2 TBSP cinnamon
Preheat your oven to 350 and grease a 13 x 9 pan. In a mixing bowl, add cake mix, pudding, oil and begin to mix, then one at a time add your eggs until well incorporated. In a bowl add brown sugar and cinnamon and mix together. Pour 1/2 your cake mixture into your pan, then top with all the cinnamon sugar mixture, then top with the rest of you cake batter and spread to cover the cinnamon sugar mixture, then with a knife swirl to mix the cinnamon sugar through out the batter. Bake for 30 – 40 minutes until done.
2 cups of confectionery sugar
4 – 6 Tbsp. of milk
1 tsp. of vanilla
In a bowl add sugar and milk, mix to combine the add vanilla. Remove cake from oven when done allow to cool for a few minutes then pour on your glaze and spread to cover the entire cake.
